Longmeadow’s Lisa Scheff was “locked up” June 25 all for a good cause.

LONGMEADOW – Lisa Scheff, owner of Lisa Scheff Designs of Longmeadow, went behind bars at Samuel’s in the Basketball Hall of Fame Wednesday, June 25, 2014, to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Scheff was “charged with having a ‘Big Heart,’” and taken downtown to serve her time.
“It’s important for me give back to my community and support local charities,” Scheff said of participating in the fundraiser. “The MDA is a worthy cause, so when they approached me for the lock up, it was a no brainer.”
The Longmeadow business raised over $800 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association calling on other local businesses to help. The fundraiser was designed to raise money and awareness for the vital work of the MDA. Market Mentors, LLC, Robert Charles Photography, The Light Touch Upholstery, Connecticut Lighting Center, GDR Electric, Paint Perfect, Cortina Tile and Santo C. DeSpirt Marble and Granite were among the generous donors.
The Lock-Up is the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s premier fundraising program. These high-profile events occur all across the country at various times throughout the year. Business and community leaders agree to be “put behind bars for good,” where they utilize their vendors, co-workers, family and friends to get donations that will go toward their “bail.”
All funds raised by the MDA Lock-Up assist the Association in providing lifesaving research, a nationwide network of medical clinics and accessible summer camp experiences to individuals and families affected by neuromuscular diseases. Thanks to the MDA jailbirds, the MDA is able to annually fund more than 300 research projects around the world as well as a national network of some 200 medical clinics, including 41 clinics designated as MDA/ALS centers, staffed by experts in neuromuscular diseases.
