Maza’s Musings: Recent transaction positions Longmeadow News for future success

Longmeadow News

As you have learned by looking at the front page of this week’s paper, The Westfield News Group, the company that produced the Longmeadow News, was sold to Reminders Publishing LLC, effective July 10.

You may have questions as to what this might mean for the future of the Longmeadow News and the coverage of the Longmeadow community it provides. In short, nothing is changing and any future change will be for the better. Employees of the Westfield News Group, including myself, have retained our positions and have become part of the Reminders Publishing team. For my part, I will continue to strive to uphold the strong journalistic integrity of this publication established by my predecessors in order to keep the citizens of this community informed.

A tremendous benefit is a fact that we will remain a locally-run organization that is dedicated to local journalism and familiar with this and surrounding communities. As many of you know, I was previously fortunate to spend seven years at The Reminder, including several covering this community, and I can say with all certainty that Managing Editor G. Michael Dobbs and the team at Reminders Publishing are as passionate as any and truly appreciate what an honor and responsibility it is to provide quality local coverage.

What’s more, with the resources that Reminders Publishing provides, there will be opportunities to improve the product and our coverage of the things that matter most to residents.

In the coming weeks, I will be working with management and coworkers to ensure that this shift is as seamless as possible and that the quality of our publication remains held to the high standards that have been set.
