Everyone has a favorite time of the year. I would guess that the summer is universally at the top of most people’s list. It is a time of good weather, school vacations and the beaches beckon.
I love the spring for the flowers and I love autumn for the colorful falling leaves, but summer is the time of year that most people find time to rest and relax for at least a week or two.
It is a time to turn off the cell phone, take a nap in a hammock and listen to music. Hopefully it is a time to recharge my batteries, catch up on sleep and rewind memories. I savor time with family and friends that I do not live near. Hopefully we will find time to get together and catch up!
In the Longmeadow area, most people get away as much as possible on the weekends. We are centrally located between the mountains, the beaches, Boston, New York City and the Berkshires. Most of my life I have been traveling through Connecticut – or as an old friend used to say “Connect-the-dots.”
We lived near the southwest corner of Connecticut when I was growing up and now we live on the north central side along the Connecticut border with Massachusetts. I crisscross the state as I drive south to see my mother, and I drive southeast to reach Rhode Island or Cape Cod beaches.
The shore is within reach but lakes are also plentiful in New York, Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine. Just get in the car and go! To get to Block Island, Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard you hope on a ferry. If you need to visit those far away then Bradley Airport is an easy place to get in and out of. No traffic and no trouble parking!
Weather its boiling hot or pouring rain and even if its bright sunshine, the summer is the time to collect your thoughts and plan for the upcoming year. I wanted to write more… but the Merritt Parkway beckons and I am meeting a long-lost relative visiting America for a few weeks! As they say in cyberspace G2G, Gotta Go!
